C-LARA

We have had a busy week! Over the last few days, we’ve published a bunch of C-LARA texts in the Oceanic language Iaai, released the second C-LARA progress report, and presented a paper at the ComputEL-7 workshop:

Iaai texts

It has been an absolute pleasure to help our New Caledonian colleagues Anne-Laure Dotte and Stéphanie Geneix-Rabault get set up to start creating C-LARA texts for the Oceanic language Iaai, where they have long-term expertise. They visited for a week, and at the end of it we had seven Iaai projects openly available on the platform: six songs (Stéphanie is an ethnomusicologist), and a C-LARA version of Wanakat Kaori, a traditional Iaai legend which is sort of a gender-reversed eco-friendly Melanesian version of the Biblical story of Abraham and Isaac. Progress report

We have released the Second C-LARA Report, which contains a full account of what we’ve been doing on the project during the period August 2023 – March 2024. Among other things, you’ll find appendices with detailed advice on how to create your own projects, using both the ‘Simple’ and ‘Advanced’ versions of the platform.

ComputEL-7 paper

On Thursday, our American/French/New Caledonian colleague Pauline Welby presented our paper T is for Treu, but how do you pronounce that? Using C-LARA to create phonetic texts for Kanak languages at the ComputEL-7 meeting. You can also find the recorded video version posted here.
