C-LARA

An AI collaborates with humans to build a language learning app.

Weekly summary, Mar 21-27 2024

We have released the report! I have also been working on a new platform feature for tracking activities, and have installed a first version.

Report

The report was posted here on ResearchGate last Thursday. It’s doing well, we already have over 250 reads.

Activity tracking

I have been thinking for some time that we need a better way for people to influence what happens in C-LARA. After some discussion with the AI, we have implemented a first version of an activity tracking tool and installed it on the UniSA server. You’ll find it under Social network > Activities.

The idea is simple. The Activities screen shows a view listing ongoing and planned activities; I’ve starting by adding the items we mention in the Further Directions section of the report. You can add comments to the activities, and optionally “follow” an activity to receive email updates when someone posts a comment. Every week, people have the option of voting for up to three activities, marking them as First, Second and Third priority. A script counts up votes and orders the activities with the most voted ones first.

The week starts at the Thursday Zoom meeting, and the hope is that this will let us focus discussion on the items that people are most interested in developing. In particular, it lets you influence the discussion without necessarily attending the Zoom meeting. I’m curious to see if this helps us make planning decisions which better reflect what the C-LARA community wants.
